How to Publish a Book Without an Agent

If you have ever wondered about how to publish a book without an agent, wonder no more. Today’s writers are finding the solution through self publishing.

Back then, book publication were the sole domain of large publishing houses who ultimately decided the fate of a manuscript based on its commercial and literary merit. Learning how to publish a book on your own was next to impossible.

Now, with the advent of print-on-demand publishing, a new breed of authors is coming to the fore: the independent author.

Going independent has several advantages. You don’t have to know everything about how to publish a book on your own. You also retain the full rights to your manuscript since publishing your book with a self-publishing company doesn’t require you to sign an exclusive contract with it as publisher.

As fascinating as the benefits of self publishing are, it also come with some challenges such as having to do your own book marketing and book promotions. Knowing how to publish a book is only half of the publishing journey. The other half lies in effectively distributing and marketing your book.

Some self-publishing companies can help you with the logistical and promotional requirements through pre-arranged global distribution agreements with major online distributors like Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble, among thousands of online retailers.

Among the self-publishing companies who have pioneered this approach is Xlibris Publishing. Since its founding thirteen years ago, Xlibris Publishing has shown over 25,000 independent authors how to publish a book with the help of print-on demand technology.

So if you want to explore the myriad of options self publishing may have for you, consider working with an established self publishing pioneer like Xlibris. Discover how to publish a book with Xlibris Publishing today.

Patriotic Book Publishing Strikes Chord with Readers

Book publishing really is for everyone, as Patricia Schoeler proves in her West Essex Tribune interview. The West Orange resident and poet spoke to her local paper about her new book, The Day America Cried, inspired by the tragic events of 9/11. “I wrote those poems as they were happening,” she says about her venture into book publishing. “This book is also a historical account of sorts.”  She originally tried unassisted self publishing, and it took some years for her to learn how to publish a book. In these days of widespread quality book publishing, she found a way her work could reach more people and decided to take her poetry to indie book publishers, finally choosing Xlibris.

Book publishing has become an outlet for Patricia, and she says she is preparing another poetry collection for self publishing. “It turns out that my poems seemed to help others too,” she says, “which is very important to me.”

Dr. Jack Pruett’s Ancient Theories a Hit with Publishing Companies

Publishing companies love a good historical mystery. The Da Vinci Code, The Illuminatus Trilogy, and Foucault’s Pendulum were all major successes for their book publishers. Zechariah Sitchin wote several similar books, which talked about ancient beings that visited Earth nearly half a million years ago. Dr. Jack Pruett, a physician and researcher, published a book called The Grandest Deception based on Sitchin’s work and readings from the Bible. Dr. Pruett consulted several publishing companies before self publishing with Xlibris.

Controversy is no obstacle to indie publishing companies, which is why Dr. Pruett preferred Xlibris over traditional book publishers. The Grandest Deception was Dr. Pruett’s first lesson on how to publish a book, but he is now successfully promoting it, speaking on radio shows across the country. Dr. Pruett’s book has received a warm response, which hopefully helps open the door to other publishing companies.

A Self Publishing Legacy—A Granddaughter’s Gift

Self publishing was Chloe Jackson’s first choice for her grandfather’s last manuscript. Eaon Jackson had lived in Hong Kong with his family since 1975, running his dog training program and participating in amateur theater. Book publishing seemed unlikely for this busy man. But since Eaon’s death in 1997, self publishing has created many unexpected avenues for writers, as Chloe found out in her search for publishing companies to help her achieve her grandfather’s dream.

Now Chloe has just finished self publishing Milandra, her grandfather’s fantasy story, with one of the top indie book publishers, Xlibris. Not having learned how to publish a book herself, she contracted Xlibris’s Australian branch to produce the story, in which a brave girl stands against an evil stepmother. The book is now out in trade paperback with beautiful cover illustrations from Xlibris, and Chloe Jackson has given her grandfather his final wish of self publishing his book.

Quality Book Publishing on Your Terms

The past few years have seen the self publishing revolution take off and gain a sizable share in the book publishing market. Why? Because authors call the shots, retain rights to their books, and take home bigger royalties than they’d normally get from traditional publishing companies.

Authors who do not know how to publish a book can take advantage of the wide array of book publishing services offered by self publishing companies like Xlibris: from formatting to design, down to marketing and bookselling services.

This August, Xlibris takes half off the prices on all its book publishing packages and offers free expedited service, 50% off Pre-Publicity Packages, and 20% off the Trifecta Marketing Service when authors publish before August 15.

Book publishing doesn’t get any easier or better than with Xlibris.
